The data is derived from Small Area boundaries from data.gov.ie and Eircode Routing Key data and is published as open, free, and reusable. Please note these are not official boundaries, An Post does not use boundaries to define a Routing Key for a property, it is defined by adding a new property to a postal route. You cannot reliably infer the Routing Key of a new property by examining these boundaries.

The table below lists all 139 Eircode Routing Keys with a descriptor. The descriptors applied to these Eircode Routing Keys are not official labels, however, they generally follow pre-existing postal town names. Please bear in mind that Routing Keys are solely used by An Post to organize postal delivery and may cross County boundaries. They do not define Town boundary extents.
